The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore is the leading organization of the country that is at present functioning in the import and export of the many different food items including the fruits and vegetables of the many different parts of the world. Lately it has come into light that this organization is flagging many vegetables from the many different countries of the European Union especially that states of Spain and Germany. It takes the food items and those items then undergo hold and test requirements that check for deadly strains of pathogenic bacteria including E coli. It has recently come into news that it was through imported cucumbers from Spain that a deadly outbreak of E coli. spread in Germany and therefore the many organizations that are involved in the import and export business of food have been lately checking for these pathogenic strains very cautiously to ensure that any deadly epidemic does not start in their own country. This is to make sure that the international business does not lead to problems with in a country. It was on Sunday, May 29, 2011 that AVA  of Singapore announced that all the leafy vegetables that have been imported from the European country including cucumbers and tomatoes will undergo the hold and test to ensure that they are safe food items.
There are some cucumbers however, do come in from other European countries like Netherlands and they have not yet caused any problems of this sort. The many different people from around the country are already buying and the government is being criticized for not holding these tests before the items came into the market. The government is rectifying its mistake and is now taking steps to eliminate the threat from the society.
