Brad Womack and Emily Maynard, who got engaged during the finale of last season's "The Bachelor," broke up and the Maynard has returned the engagement ring, according to Us Weekly.
The 25-year-old single mom was spotted in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina without the Neil Lane engagement ring that Womack put on her finger during the show's finale. Rumors of a break-up started back in March after the couple admit that they'd had a "bumpy couple months."
Sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the couple broke up two weeks ago, shortly after Maynard visit Womack in his native Austin, Texas. Sources say the split was initiated by Maynard, who couldn't deal with the long distance nature of the relationship.
"Emily is happy in Charlotte and is not moving to Austin with [her 5-year-old daughter] Ricki," the source told Us Weekly. "She is content."
Another source claims that Womack is not taking the break-up well, adding, "Brad keeps drunk-dialing her... Brad is such a loser."
Womack, 38, proposed to Maynard, a children's hospital event planner on the last episode of the 15th season of the hit ABC dating series, while Chantal O'Brien, a 28-year-old executive assistant from Seattle, Washington, came in second place.
"Though we are madly in love, it has been a bumpy couple of months for us and our priority right now is to focus on our relationship," the couple said in a statement provided by Warner Bros. Television in March. "We hope that you can respect our privacy as we return to normalcy and begin our off-screen lives together."
Womack told OnTheRedCarpet.com recently that it has been so long since he's seen the woman he chose in the finale, that he's not even sure if there's still a relationship. The website PopSugar.com quoted unnamed sources as saying Womack and Maynard were no longer together in March.
The three-hour finale of "The Bachelor" averaged a 4.5 rating among adults aged 18 to 49 and was seen by 13.8 million people, marking the lowest ratings given to a final episode for the show in almost three years, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Ashley Hebert, a 27-year-old dental student from Maine who placed third on the last season of "The Bachelor," was named the new "Bachelorette."
"Expect anything to happen," Hebert told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith recently. "But even going into it, I had a few insecurities, still."
Herbert will choose from among a group of 25 male contestants on the upcoming seventh season, which premieres on May 23 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
